Not only would closing the wage gap help women support their families, but it also would help cut poverty rates in half for working women. Furthermore, it would provide a beneficial boost to the economy. Equal pay would increase the wages paid into the economy by $513 billion which represents almost 3% of the United States' Gross Domestic Income (GDP) in 2016.
